The Night I Met Your Absence...
That night, I met your absence.
It was as cold as an Alaskan winter, as glacial as my attitude every time I encountered it. With soft steps, a lethargic gait, devoid of emotion and faceless, it arrived. It opened the door to the room, swept its aura of sadness and longing over the room, and then headed toward its victim. Another night, once again, it was me. A few steps away, it stopped. Lady Anguish had slipped under my sheets a few hours earlier. Anguish and Absence: my companions that night. Sleep sometimes managed to save me from Anguish's clutches; it would arrive unannounced and snatch me from its grasp.
But that night, Absence had invited itself. No more refuge, no more escape. It had chilled my sheets, my body; nothing had been spared. Your absence had imprisoned my thoughts and ideas. It haunted my mind, took possession of my entire being, and it was as if I accepted this silent suffering. My hands, where Summer and Happiness once slept, were now nothing but nests of Winter and Snowflakes. I turned back toward the void. It was starting up again, another deafening roar.
"You weren't there"
